Ireland most pricey place in Europe for alcohol

The Drinks Industry Group of Ireland said in a statement: “Ireland’s high alcohol tax take has left us in the strange position where Ireland is now one of the most expensive countries in the world to buy Irish whiskey.

“Visitors may be shocked when they find they can often purchase two bottles of Irish whiskey at home for the price of one in Ireland.”

Last year,publicans called on the Irish government to ban sales of cheap booze, claiming nearly half of the alcohol sold in Ireland is “close to or below cost price”.
